Description:

A case design with an inner back having an opening through which a hammer hits a bell, this bell fully covering the back of the case. Quoting from the patent: "It is evident from the above description that my alarm clock can be very easily assembled, that it uses an extremely large bell, which is larger than the movement case and forms the exposed part, enabling me to use an inexpensive case for the movement and at the same time producing a very loud alarm."

This patent shows the regular Western Clock Manufacturing Company alarm clock movement in Kern's new case. Later patents cover Kern's new movement for the Big Ben.
