Historical Article: "Big Ben Made His Bow in 1910. Today He's the World's Best Known Alarm" A short history of Ben Ben alarm. Gaston LeRoy's suggested the name "Big Ben" after a trip to London. A few Big Bens were sold in 1909, and he was first advertised in 1910. First Big Ben ad Sept. 24, 1910 Saturday Evening Post, page 39 (not page 1 as this article says). "For several years, a Westclox ad appeared in the Post every two months. Later we went to our current scheduled of every four weeks. Every fourth week since that date, year in and year out, a Westclox advertisement has occupied page one in the Saturday Evening Post" Big Ben's price of $2.50 was high for an alarm clock in 1910. But Big Ben introduced a particular quality that people had not counted on in alarm clock performance before—outstanding dependability, looks and quality."
