Baby Ben Style 10 Alarm Clock History

The style 10 Big Ben and Baby Ben alarm clocks were introduced in 2001. I saw them for the first time at Wal-Mart in Lafayette, Indiana on May 5, 2001. The dial has radial numerals, reminiscent of those on the early style 7 Bens from 1956 to 1958. The alarm set dial is a rotating disc, a style revived from the 30's and 40's.

This model replaces the style 9, which had been in production since 1980. The style 1 and 1a Big Bens were produced from 1908 to 1935, making them the longest running Ben style in Westclox history. The style 9 comes in second, running from 1980 to 2001.

As of late fall, 2001, I have seen no more of these clocks on the shelves of the local discount stores. This is because General Time Corporation, parent company of Westclox, has closed its doors. Some of its trademarks have been sold to Salton, Inc.

I was notified on October 15, 2002 that Westclox products had just become available online from Salton.

In October, 2012 I still see style 10 Bens for sale online. (I haven't seen windup Westclox in the Lafayette Walmart for a year or more).
