Description: 

The rotor and/or the stator pole pieces can have projections where part of the projections are in the same plane as the rotor or stator, and part are at an angle out of the plane. Also, a separate disc could be attached to the rotor with one less projection than needed to run at synchronous frequency, this construction gives excellent starting and running torque.
