Date:

August 20, 1923

Description:

Historical Article: Personnel: "Old Timers" Rob Patton, longest Westclox employee. Started when the clockworks consisted of a two story frame house in the side of a hill. At that time, they were not making clocks, but were making tools for making clocks. Bob carried the daily output of 20 clocks to Schlichten Dry Goods Company. One Christmas, Mr. Stahlberg gave each employee a clock inscribed on the back "One of a hundred clocks that cost $10,000." Soon after Mr. Roth joined the company, in 1889, he called in all the old clocks he could find and remodeled them, and for some time after that, clocks that cost $1.25 to make were sold for seventy-five cents apiece. ". . . few of you date back far enough to remember the seven men and a boy who started the old United Clock Co. on its road."
